In Magia Flamenca, great masters of flamenco dancing, guitar playing and singing unite to realize their vision of transforming the the traditional solo performances into exciting events of mutual collaboration, interactive confrontation of tradition with innovation and even
involvement of the audience. Historically, flamenco is a unique combination of indian, jewish, arabic and spanish elements that gypsy tribes found and mixed with their own music in the countries they crossed 1000 years ago moving from India slowly through Persia and Northern Africa to Southern Spain. The basis of flamenco is
the singing around which later evolved dancing and guitar performances as arts of their own right. The artists of Magia de Maestros have inhaled this music from their earliest childhood on, and are considered today as figures of primary importance, as idols, because they enrich and develop flamenco in a profound and unique way without neglecting or denying the traditions or roots. Magia de Maestros´ intention is to
confront tradition with innovation, expressing the artists desire to transmit the traditional art with modern means.
| The whole spectrum of flamenco is presented, from the solemn soleares to the joyful alegrías and tangos. The dancers
will not only appear only one by one, but also compete against and inspire each other to achieve a new form of challenging interaction. Surprising elements, like differently sounding floors, street clothes and a refined sound and light technique will intensify dance, singing and guitar performances. All the scenes are exclusively produced and to be
seen only in Magia de Maestros, be it the introduction with orchestral music and slow movements of the young dancer in half-light until the first outburst of energy, supported by suddenly emerging flamenco guitars; be it the beautiful romantic melody of “Sueno de Amor” with Belén Maya and Israel Galván, or the Soleá composed by Gerardo Núnez and interpreted by Belén in an incredible fusion somewhere between flamenco, modern dance and ballet with
a special half-light (penumbra) illumination. With regard to rhythm and melody, themes are played and to be responded by the dancers and percussionists, integrating elements of question and answer known from jazz and indian music, creating a trance like magic atmosphere. Even the audience is part of the peformance by participating in the all important rhythm with
which they support the dancers in selected scenes. |
